“3…2…1! Happy 2024!!” The sky shimmered with a myriad of beautiful colours. As the bursts of light cascaded down, there was a sense of collective celebration, marking not only the passage of time but the forging of lasting memories with the ones who matter most. This was truly a night to remember for everyone here at Boon Lay.

On 31 Dec 2023, 123 students volunteered for Boon Lay Countdown to usher in the new year with residents in the constituency. Helmed by our Service & Citizenship Society (JC) and JC Students’ Council, our student leaders started preparations and planning from Term 3 last year and had the opportunities to support, collaborate and network with Boon Lay Community Centre’s grassroots leaders as well as the Boon Lay Youth Network.

Through this celebration and prior home visits, our volunteer befrienders learnt to engage and care for residents who are wheelchair users in the community. Our game booths team put their creative-thinking skills to the test in brainstorming for exciting booth ideas and saw these ideas turn into reality during the event. Our talented volunteers also showcased their abilities in performing and emceeing on the fringe stage, bringing much joy and entertainment to our beloved Boon Lay community. Boon Lay Countdown has been a meaningful opportunity for us to give back to the community around us and embody the school motto of “upholding virtues, contributing to society.”
